5 Signs You're Seriously Overworked

5 Signs You're Seriously Overworked | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it

You'd think it would be easy spot when you're working too hard--long hours, painful wake-ups and general exhaustion are sure tip-offs, right? The funny thing is, our bodies and minds have a funny way of adjusting to the demands we place on them, at least for awhile.

As your hours creep up and the pressure gradually intensifies, you may end up feeling like you're flying (or at least grinding it out) until one day, burnout hits with a vengeance and your health or your sanity crumbles. Rather than get to that point, wouldn't it be good if you could keep an eye out for early warning signs that your schedule and stress levels are starting to get out of whack so you can make adjustments before you collapse?

Vicki Kossoff @ The Learning Factor's insight:

Stress can creep up on you. Keep an eye on your state of mind by watching out for these warning signs.

The Many, Many, Many Things You Should Say "NO" To At Work

The Many, Many, Many Things You Should Say "NO" To At Work | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it
Be Ruthless

“Quite candidly, I’m really ruthless in terms of doing only those things which are absolutely essential. I’m saying no to a lot, both in work and life. I see a lot of working moms who think they have to be 110% at work, and then volunteer to run the school auction. We’ve become so awful at saying no. I try hard to become incredibly selective about those things I engage with, so I can be really present for the stuff that I’m doing, and be really engaged with my kids in a meaningful way. People are trying to accomplish too much, and they’re killing themselves in the process.”

Whatever their personality quirks and limitations, your grandparents probably simply gritted their teeth and got on with life, toughing out any difficulties that arose. But these days we live in the age of self-help. That's great news for those with mental trauma or problematic personalities. Help abounds to assist people who want to become the best, happiest version of themselves, alleviating a lot of human misery.

But it is possible to take self-help too far.

33 Thought-Provoking Quotes to Wake Up Your Inner Innovator

33 Thought-Provoking Quotes to Wake Up Your Inner Innovator | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it

When we grow up we are taught that innovation is something special. To be an entrepreneur, you somehow have to be different. Being an entrepreneur and an innovator, they say, requires a particular approach, personality, training, the list goes on. I think this is wrong! It is my sincere belief that we are all entrepreneurs. Even those who work for large organizations can impact true change, they are intrapreneurs. All it takes is passion, curiosity, and strong desire to make even a small impact on the world.

The 7-Step Formula For A Performance Review That Actually Works

The 7-Step Formula For A Performance Review That Actually Works | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it

Is it already time for the semi-annual conversation with each of your direct reports?

This may seem more painful than your semi-annual dental cleaning, but regardless, you are now expected to bring each of your stellar and not-so-stellar team members into your office and fill a 45-minute block on your calendar with topics of mutual interest in the realm of professional development.

An effective discussion on performance development follows a repeatable formula, much like one adopted by Steven Spielberg in his pursuit for theatrical excellence--an honorable protagonist, the struggle to overcome human fallibility, a cast of supporting characters, and the possibility of a sequel that may very well surpass expectations. Click to see  the formula you can follow for your next feedback cycle.

LinkedIn’s Resume Builder Makes a Resume From Your Profile

LinkedIn’s Resume Builder Makes a Resume From Your Profile | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it

LinkedIn Labs, like Google Labs, is the experimental section of LinkedIn where they test out new features. The Resume Builder takes your LinkedIn Profile and creates an instant resume. You can share the URL of your resume with potential employers or print it out.

You could use a free template for your resume or Google Docs, but then you have to fill in all the details yourself. Resume Builder has one major drawback: it doesn't export to an editable format. For now, you can only save it as a PDF. Of course, you can always upload that PDF to Google Docs and edit it from there. Hit the link to try it out.

Leading Employees Through Major Organizational Change - Through the eyes of a CEO

Leading Employees Through Major Organizational Change - Through the eyes of a CEO | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it
I took over as CEO of Sanofi Canada in May 2012 when the healthcare organization was preparing for major change. We were about to move hundreds of employees to a new corporate headquarters, a challenging operation at the best of times, while also getting set to transition to an open-plan workspace, a first in our history.

The shift to a state-of-the-art office space, with employees working side-by-side in a collaborative environment, required a complete transformation in work culture. Many of our senior staff had spent several decades working in a closed environment. As a result, apprehensions ran high. Making sure the appropriate level of consideration was given to employee concerns, while ensuring a major shift in our corporate culture was successfully implemented, proved to be a massive job. Indeed, it turned out to be the challenge of my career, perhaps even a bigger challenge than I’d bargained for when signing on.

The 10 Things You Must Do to Make Hiring Top Talent No. 1

The 10 Things You Must Do to Make Hiring Top Talent No. 1 | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it

Over a 10 year period from 1991 to 2001 my firm made over 400 presentations to groups of CEOs at emerging and entrepreneurial companies. The presentations were largely the same. All focused on how to select people to grow the company.

One big idea was to map the types of people the company was hiring to its business strategy. The other point, while not as grand, was more important: If hiring top talent is important to your company's growth make this the primary measure of how you reward and promote your hiring managers. Although 90% of the CEOs believed in the concept, few did anything to make this part of their company's culture.

Vicki Kossoff @ The Learning Factor's insight:

Despite the lofty mission statement, most companies go out of their way to make sure hiring is not #1. It doesn't have to be that way.

Many of us struggle with what our own ideas of what a "dream job" would be. If you feel a little like you're just floating along the river of life, it might be a good idea to grab a paddle and start exploring uncharted waters. Take a step out of your comfort zone and experience new things. When you're stuck in your bubble, you're afraid of being uncomfortable. Branch out and see what's out there. Eventually you'll encounter something that gets you excited.

The matter has being brought it to the notice of the World Churches Council and the Commission of the Churches asked its notice on the matter to the United Nations for your appropriate decisions. ?The World Churches Council Policy Paper on Social Justice and Common Goods is the best policy to the World peace and unity solutions, which has been published on 22 March 2011 and the same is in accordance with Psalm 85. The Church cannot succeed if it, isolates itself, Not only must Christians reach out to Muslims and other faiths in the spirit of ecumenism, but there is a need to embrace other people of different philosophical convictions. This requires ideological tolerance, maturity and self assurance in what one believes in. Such coalition building is made easier by choosing issues that unite organizations and movements and which have less potential causing divisions. At the same time we need an honest and inventive method of dealing with differences. The global movement for economic justice relies considerably on policy analysis and research conducted by hundreds if not thousands of academics researchers and scholars. ?Our consequences of the changing power relations in today's world is that there is more room in the public sphere for the affirmation of collective values and principles, experience proves that an informed public opinion can be powerful today, and can change governments public and international agendas. Again Churches are challenged to make use of this opportunity. They need to read the signs of time and to make their voices heard by responding to peoples cries for justice and dignity, and by speaking truth to the powers- whoever and wherever their may be. ?Christians do not have ready made answers and solutions to propose. The Bible offers guidelines (love, sharing, justice for the poor) but does not defined one "Christian" economy or "Christian" politics. ?Churches and Church related organizations can initiate public debates and largely use media means to reach a broader constituency, furthermore, regional thematic discussions can be facilitated with the ecumenical family. WCC should develop specific analysis depending on the context. ?What are theological implications for commodification common goods? ?How shall we ensure the participation all people in managing common goods in the world? ?How do we deal with power imbalances in the world? ?How can the ecumenical family engage itself effectively and in a coherent and convincing way in addressing global power imbalance? ?How can WCC lead a climate change campaign with social justice as a focus? ?What kind of collective values can be draw for the Churches to guide them in addressing the problem of commodification of common goods? ?The above questions have been answered in our research materials available at http://www.goldenduas.com and alsohttp://www.facebook.com/research of international development solutions and the same are to be discussed by the Churches, public and all its organizations in the interest of public safety, peace, unity, health, wealth, faith, interfaith ?                 Under this circumstances, it is just and necessary that UK, USA, Cambridge, Churches on the International Affairs are requested to accept our research paper and also our research organization as an organization under other faith category to assist the commission to achieve its goal of International Peace and climate changes solutions for the benefit of world community especially Christians, Jewish and Muslims, under the by-law 3.11 of CCIA. In view of the aforementioned submissions in the interest of maintenance of International Peace and Security, UN may be pleased to authorize our organization in the name and style of` Research on International Development Solutions `and also our research report in confirmatory with U/A 96 of the present Charter read with U/A 23 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and thus render Justice.  Now, Palestine Muslims are fighting with Israel , both countries are affected and innocent people are killed frequently which is against the Quranic verses 7:137 & 5:33 that no one can claim Israel Government areas which is a place of Israel People but not Muslim or Christian and they can only Allow worship in the Holy Places of Israel . Peer Coaching as a Tool for Culture Change

Peer Coaching as a Tool for Culture Change | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it
How does an incoming CEO make systemic changes in an established company when its employees have become demoralized or fearful? I’m thinking of a storied manufacturing firm that only recently emerged from a decade of turmoil and drift. An independent analysis concluded that an overly ambitious expansion effort in the mid-2000s had resulted in the company launching projects it lacked the resources to deliver. Managers and engineers, reluctant to bring bad news to bosses who had advocated for expansion, let troubled projects fester until problems became acute.

The simple but effective practice of peer coaching can help organisational culture change.

Is Self-Doubt Holding You Back? 5 Ways To Build Confidence And Banish Doubt

Is Self-Doubt Holding You Back? 5 Ways To Build Confidence And Banish Doubt | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it

The problem with self-doubt is that the fear it creates stops us from living the lives we most want and changing the things we don’t.  How?  Fear keeps us living small and stuck in jobs that don’t fulfill us but feel safe.  But is there really anything safe about living a life where you feel disengaged, disillusioned or desperate to be doing something else? of course not. The truth is that who you are is not your doubts. The key to banishing them isn’t to wish them away, but to take action in their presence.

It’s easy to mislead ourselves into thinking that if we just had the success we wanted, then we’d never doubt ourselves again and ooze the confidence we see in others.  But it actually works in reverse.

Vicki Kossoff @ The Learning Factor's insight:

If you find yourself plagued by self-doubt, you’re not alone. In fact, one study of managers by the European Institute for Leadership and Management revealed that 50% of female managers and 31% of male managers admitted to experiencing self-doubt.

3 Ways Responsive Leaders Learn to Lead Themselves

3 Ways Responsive Leaders Learn to Lead Themselves | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it

While many leaders rely on proven past methods (often learned in B-school), others are taking new approaches that help them transcend what they already know. These fresh methods help them handle the day-to-day, while becoming responsive to other things that matter.

One of these “new” methods is a coaching approach that has been used with individuals, now making its way into the C-suite.

“The ‘coach approach’ asks leaders to define who they want to be at this moment and in the future,” says Jennifer Antolak, president of Learning Journeys, a life coaching academy. “And it’s about helping others understand that we support their choices.”

Vicki Kossoff @ The Learning Factor's insight:

It's easy to lead others. But when today's business climate includes untimely squalls and unpredictable tsunamis, it's difficult to know how to lead yourself.

4 Keys To Delivering Constructive Employee Feedback

4 Keys To Delivering Constructive Employee Feedback | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it

It's nauseating to see a leader avoid giving negative feedback because they're afraid of hurting someone's feelings. They do so because they might receive negative feedback themselves that they were too direct in delivering their message. So rather than going the direct route, they water down their message until it's a mealy-mouthed stream of meaningless jargon.

Do you want to follow a leader who doesn't speak his or her mind? Someone who is more concerned with how their actions will be perceived rather than saying what they really think? Do you want to follow a leader who is more interested in doing nothing wrong and hence not doing much of anything? Or would you rather follow someone who takes a stand for what they believe in and suffers the consequences as appropriate?

Vicki Kossoff @ The Learning Factor's insight:

Leaders have to stop avoiding conflict and sidestepping tough feedback. Instead, accept that sometimes delivering pointed feedback is in everyone's best interest.
